Ok, this is something that’s been bugging me that I think needs to be addressed. Now, it’s no secret that I am a major Mark Sanchez fan. I don’t think a lot of the criticism is necessary and I think he’s getting a lot of the blame for issues that weren’t his fault. One of my biggest issues with all the criticism is how he hasn’t developed in his third year. I am firm believer that the performance Sanchez gave this season was not his best work and that next year will be a better year. And I’m going to show why Jets fans shouldn’t give up on him by comparing his third season to Eli Mannings.
Fun fact: Eli Manning, who was drafted in the 2004 draft, won the Super Bowl in the 2007-2008 season. Aka, he won the Super Bowl in his 4th season with the Giants (his third as a starter). Therefore, it is my opinion that people need to calm down with the “Let’s get rid of Mark Sanchez and bring in Peyton Manning” talk. For one, Peyton Manning is only leaving the Colts if he is physically unable to play football for them and if he can’t play football for the Colts he’s not playing football for anyone. Also, let’s be serious. The Jets can’t afford Peyton Manning.
Secondly, you have to give Sanchez one more chance. Many quarterbacks skip the sophomore slump and hit a slump in their third year. Additionally, shit was hitting the fan on a daily basis in the Jets locker room and how are you supposed to build relationships with your teammates if people are tearing each other down every day? Obviously, there’s still a lot of negativity in the locker room (I’m 100% blaming Santonio Holmes who has showed his true self as an ungrateful diva this season). Anyway, the point I’m trying to make is this: it took Eli until his fourth season with the Giants to lead them to that improbable Super Bowl win. A win that they weren’t supposed to get. Sure, it was only his third as a starter but that just means he had one extra season to learn the offense and start building relationships with teammates before being told he was taking over as starter. So his learning curve was different from Sanchez’s. Therefore, Mark Sanchez gets one more chance before you cut him loose. I’ll come out and say it now, if he plays next season the way he played this season, I’ll probably start to lose patience and will want another quarterback leading the Jets. But for now, Mark Sanchez has my support for one more season. Let’s hope he improves his games and proves his haters wrong.
